Susan Hone, city councilwoman in the 1970s : [sound recording] / interviews conducted by Gabrielle Morris, 1974-1981.

Recorded Oct. 25, 1974. Hone was then a member of the Berkeley City Council and discusses her position. tapes 2-3 recorded August 26, 1981. Hone discusses Berkeley-Oakland Democratic party activities in the 1960s and 1970s, including election campaigns and frictions with the "new politics" of the more progressive Berkeley Citizens Action and its leaders. Tapes 4-5, recorded September 3, 1981, are on women in politics and the formation and activities of California Elected Women, in which Hone was active. City History The City of Berkeley, California was incorporated on April 1, 1878 from two distinct settlements. Much of the area surrounding Berkeley was given the Peralta family as a land grant from the Spanish king in 1820.
